Hot Wheels® is an American toy brand owned by Mattel. Their signature vehicle franchise has shared very close ties with the Cars line since the latter's very inception; The film's die-cast lineup was originally envisioned to "blend" into the main 1:64 Hot Wheels car line, before production changes and eventually, exceeding sales cemented it as a self-sustaining brand.[1][2] Nonetheless, design and particularly marketing have always shared significant overlap, with both lines (along with Matchbox) currently operating under a unified "Wheels" division.[3] Many core Hot Wheels concepts, like segments, Treasure Hunts, and collector events were translated into Cars convention with collaborative input of John Lasseter.[4]
Beyond archetypal and creative overlap, two decades have produced minimal crossover between the two brands' vehicles; Only two Cars-themed Hot Wheels items have ever been released.

Trivia
- Riggs' crew chief at the time of driving was Ray Evernham, who eventually went on to voice the self-parodying Ray Reverham in 2017's Cars 3.
