<< Mainline series chronology >>

2008 was the third mainline series of basic Mattel Disney Pixar Cars vehicles, as part of that year's larger World of Cars Series. This series, they started numbering each release in the year, along with introducing Chases, which are die-casts that only release once.

Notes

  • 2008 saw a major shift in management, with Martin Arriola taking over as Lead Project Designer, and Ryan Gleason helming the Packaging Department.[1][2] They worked as a "team of 3"[3] until July 2009, when Arriola was reassigned to lead the WWE line instead.[4][5]
  • Mattel India launched the Cars line for the first time in 2008.[6]

Five additional singles were released in a K-mart exclusive assortment case, as part of the first Kmart Cars Collector's Day event. While they featured a unique package design (based on the Los Angeles International Speedway) and were not assigned a collector number, the vehicles are not marked as part of any collection or special series, and shared the typical M1054 assortment code.
