The first ever Cars Collector Event was held on Saturday, October 18, 2008 at 11:00am at all US Kmart stores.^[2]^[3]

It featured five special single-card releases of Piston Cup racer characters, in their first public release outside the RLC-exclusive Motor Speedway of the South set; they sported a unique backdrop set at the Los Angeles International Speedway from the film. The models came exclusively in the event assortment, using the mainline M1054 assortment number (and sharing the case with select mainline cars).
