Mega Bloks (stylized MEGA BLOKS) is a construction toy involving jumbo-size, interlocking bricks, designed and marketed to children ages 1-3. From roughly 2007 until 2009, a "Disney Cars" brand was available, featuring characters and sets based on the 2006 film. As of 2023, and following Mattel's purchase of MEGA Brands in 2014, at least one new product separate from the original line has been released.

History

The Cars MEGA BLOKS line was introduced in late 2006; the first wave of sets used Supercharged branding. Sets were available at major retailers like Kohl's and Toys"R"Us in the United States, with the latter offering occasional exclusives.

The last wave of sets, using the World of Cars logo and style elements, were released around 2008. At ToyFair 2009, the LEGO Group and Disney Consumer Products announced a multi-year licensing agreement, with Cars-themed DUPLO sets to launch in 2010. It is unknown whether this agreement impacted MEGA BLOKS' discontinuation.

Sets

Each set contains an assortment of blocks that can be assembled into the advertised design (detailed in an included instruction booklet), or to make original creations, potentially with other MEGA BLOKS kits. They are typically based on key scenes or locations from the Cars film, and include one or more rolling characters.

One or more waves of the "stadium" cardbacks (listed as Racing Series) likely were exclusive to Walmart stores, as certain and otherwise out-of-place characters match those marketed in the retailer's fall 2007 promotional campaign.

Mattel

The Mattel Global Consumer Support database has a listing titled "Cars Builable Street Racers" dated 2014. A new set titled "Lightning McQueen's Racing Adventure" (HHN04) was released in Mexico around late 2022.
