Chuck Armstrong is a professional race car who competed in the Piston Cup Racing Series. He is extremely allergic to certain types of fuels, and as a result, he has to stay at least five feet away from them. Because other Piston Cup racers used different kinds of fuels, Chuck became infamous among other racers for his allergies, causing other cars to be afraid to pass him. Despite this, Chuck also has a reputation for being one of the toughest and most determined racers. In one season, while suffering from a worn-out clutch, Chuck managed to push through and bump-start himself enough to emerge victorious.

In Cars, Chuck is one of the thirty-six Piston Cup racers who compete in the Dinoco 400, the final race of the season at the Motor Speedway of the South. During the race, Chick Hicks causes a multi-car pileup between several of the racers. Armstrong crashes and flies a long distance before landing, receiving heavy cosmetic damage. Once the crash subsides, Tow is seen pulling Chuck away from the track, while he groans to his crew chief "Don't take me out, coach. I can still race!", however, he was seen without damage in the restart, due to an animation error.

Between Cars and Cars 3

Between the events of Cars and Cars 3, Chuck retired and Dud Throttleman succeeded him as the Mood Springs racer.

The Rookie

While Chuck does not appear in the actual comic itself, he is seen on one of the covers for The Rookie. He is one of several race cars piled up on top of one another, while Lightning McQueen is trying to navigate through them.

Physical description

Chuck Armstrong is an Axxelo Fission stock car and uses Lightyear racing tires. He has blue eyes and a black grille that resembles a mustache. He is painted in a dark blue livery and has the white Mood Springs logo on his hood, rear fenders, trunk, and rear, he also has stickers imitating headlights and tailights, being shaped as a trapezoids (headlights) and wide rectangles (tailights) He also has the number 33 on his doors and roof.

The Axxelo Fission is based on the 1995 NASCAR version of the Chevrolet Monte Carlo.

Chuck Armstrong is depicted as one of the most resilient and strong-willed racers in the Piston Cup circuit. Trivia

• When Chuck is shown flying through the air, he has a female tone, but when he is towed away, he has a male tone.
  • However, it is possible that it was actually higher pitched, but when he speaks while being towed away, it is in normal pitch.
• In Cars: The Videogame, a racer named Banks competes in the 2006 Piston Cup season instead of Armstrong. His number is 34 in most versions of the game, but he retains the number 33 in the Xbox 360 version.
• Prototype images of Chuck's die-cast model incorrectly depict him as a Capitol Motors Verve XT. The actual release, however, remains accurate to his appearance in Cars.
• In the movie and on his artwork, he has blue rims, but on his diecast, he has black rims.
  • This was fixed when his Race Damaged diecast was released in the Final Lap Collection.
• In the 2018/2019 diecast mainline, he is mistakenly called Dud Throttleman.
