Gil is a semi-trailer truck who lives in the United States. He works as a freight hauler, transporting toxic industrial waste to recycling plants. He is known among other truckers for his jokes, despite using the same ones repeatedly.
He is a 1990 Peterbilt 372 with brown eyes and a dark green paintjob. His license plate number, ML115, is shared with J. Low Lee, M.A. Brake Drumm, Houser Boon, Bertha Butterswagon, Chet Boxkaar, Ben Crankleshaft, Oliver Lightload and Paul Valdez.

In Cars, Gil tunes in to watch the Piston Cup tie-breaker race at the Los Angeles International Speedway on television alongside Paul Valdez and some others at a petrol station.

Gil was given a brief appearance in the story when Mack took McQueen to the Top-Down Truck Stop. When McQueen tells him that he's a precision instrument of speed and aerodynamics, Gil heartily replies with "Well I'm a precision instrument in carrying very heavy things!"
"Thanks, but no thanks!"
Gil has a speaking role in the comic "Thanks, but no thanks!". Mack and Lightning McQueen offer to transport Chick Hicks when Chick Hicks' Hauler breaks down on the side of the road, but Chick rudely declines. Gil then offers to transport Hicks, and Chick spitefully agrees, not realizing that he will be riding alongside loads of toxic waste.
