Chad was a secondary race car which was scrapped from the story line of Cars around 2002. In the original story, Lightning McQueen is invited to race in the first ever Radiator Springs Grand Prix. He refuses, choosing instead standard community service. When he wakes up the next morning, his V8 alcohol motor had been taken out of his body and put inside of a steamroller. Lightning's voice is inside of the steamroller body and he is forced to fix the road. Meanwhile Mater borrows McQueen's body and goes to the next Piston Cup race. However, Lightning wakes up again, finding himself in his regular body, revealing that everything was just a dream. He sees the old steamroller body on the side, though. Still freaked out, he decides to change his mind and do the race instead.
