Planes 3 was a tentative title that was used for two different films intended to be the third Planes movie. A third Planes film was initially hinted at by Carlos Alazraqui (the voice of El Chupacabra) when he told the Comedy Film Nerds on March 1, 2013 that the franchise would be a trilogy,[1] and a Disney staff member later told a writer of TAG Blog on October 17, 2013 that the film has been put into story development.[2] At the D23 Expo on July 14, 2017, John Lasseter stated that a film featuring a scene of two planes flying "to the edge of the atmosphere" was in development by DisneyToon Studios, with the working title of Space and was scheduled for release on April 12, 2019.[3] However, it was suddenly removed from the schedule release on March 1, 2018.[4] On June 28, 2018, after DisneyToon Studios was immediately shut down, the film was canceled.[5]
Beyond the Sky
Beyond the Sky was one of the two films being developed as a third Planes movie. The plot of the film was focused on advancements of space travel, with the main character "Blaze", being shown up by these advancements. Not much else is known about this plot, however storyboards and drafts have been posted online for viewers to see. According to David Scott Smith, a storyboard artist that worked at Disneytoon Studios, stated that: "too many things just weren’t right about it", indicating that there might have been some production issues while developing the film.[6] More interestingly, this version of the film might have been scrapped earlier, as the post Smith made was back in 2016, despite reports claiming the film was scheduled for a 2019 release.[7][8]
Untitled El Chupacabra film
Another film intended to be the third Planes movie was an untitled film relating to El Chupacabra. The plot of this film would have been focused on him proposing to Rochelle, who was now his fiancé, and settling a rivalry between him and his brother. A scene from the film known as "Race Through the Andes" was posted online at an unknown time by Piero Piluso.[9] One of the settings of the film was intended to be Brazil as well, as a festival was being held during the film's events. Storyboarded scenes of this film would eventually be uploaded to YouTube, including a version of "Race Through the Andes" with audio.[10] Compared to Beyond the Sky, or Space, not much else is unknown about this version of Planes 3, besides the fact that it was most likely storyboarded around a similar time in 2013 and was cancelled sometime afterwards.

Trivia
- Despite there being two films in development as the third Planes movie, Dusty Crophopper is nowhere to be seen or mentioned in any of the proposed films. However, he does have concept art relating to a third Planes movie, at least meaning he was going to appear in one of them. Most likely the El Chupacabra film.
