The title of a page must be given when creating it. It is the large, styled text at the top of the page.

Change

Parts

One of several function hooks can retrieve specific parts of the title. Generally:

Prefix:Rootpage/Subpage

There is also {{#titleparts:}} which works to the same end, but with a bit more involved user input. Scribunto has a built-in mw.title library; Get the title object with mw.title.getCurrentTitle() then use one of several methods to retrieve one or more parts/data as a text string.

Example page title: Help:Parser functions/rreplace
For the Lua column:

local MWTitle = mw.title.getCurrentTitle()
Parser function Normal URL-encoded link Lua
{{PAGENAME}} Parser functions/rreplace Parser_functions/rreplace MWTitle.text
{{FULLPAGENAME}} Help:Parser functions/rreplace Help:Parser_functions/rreplace MWTitle.prefixedText
{{BASEPAGENAME}} Parser functions Parser_functions MWTitle.baseText
{{ROOTPAGENAME}} Parser functions Parser_functions MWTitle.rootText
{{SUBPAGENAME}} rreplace rreplace MWTitle.subpageText

If seeking to compare equality of two page titles, usually it is best to use {{PAGEID}} instead, as various transclusion factors may influence the encoding level of a string at different points of evaluation.

Namespaces

Namespaces refer to each different type, or perhaps "class" of page that exists on the wiki. Each has unique properties and quirks that define its identity, and how it interacts with others. The namespace of a given page is easily identifiable by the prefix in the title, with the principal exception of the mainspace, which has none.

Every content namespace (except Special) has a corresponding talk page. The latter should be assumed to operate identically unless noted otherwise.
