Help:Sections

Headings break up a page's content into sections, for both visual and organizational benefit to the reader. Section header syntax is used to insert the respective <h1><h6> element to the number of equals signs = on each side of the title text. An anchor link is automatically added, along with an "edit" button for logged-in users.

As seen below, the table of contents marks every section:

Styles

Wikitext Markup Result HTML equiv.* Comments
Heading 1 = Heading 1 =

Heading 1

<h1>Heading 1</h1>

Not recommended for general use. This is the same format as the page title, the weight of which seldom needs to be challenged.
Heading 2 == Heading 2 ==

Heading 2

<h2>Heading 2</h2>

Heading 3 === Heading 3 ===

Heading 3

<h3>Heading 3</h3>
Heading 4 ==== Heading 4 ====

Heading 4

<h4>Heading 4</h4>

Potentially skin-dependent, but at least on desktop Vector skin, <h4> through <h6> look the same. Beyond level 4, try to use another way of breaking up the section – options include tables with colspan headers or <thead> text, regular or centered bold text, and so on.
