A page can be renamed using the Move tab in the right-side actions menu. Before doing so, please read through this page fully.

Before moving

First and foremost, please familiarize with the actual naming policy - that is, conventions for how various wiki subjects should be titled.

Next, it is helpful to know that the title display itself can be modified, to a minor degree, without actually renaming the page—if perhaps some styling should be applied, namely italics. This is done using the {{DISPLAYTITLE:}} function hook. Also of interest could be {{DEFAULTSORT:}}, if your motive is changing the sort behavior within category listings.

Moving a page does not change the links that point to it! If a redirect is suppressed, links and images will break – even otherwise, they will still point to the old name, likely impacting searches and possibly creating further redirect issues. If you commit to moving without prior proposal, it should be reasonable to expect you will handle updating all the old links. Always check "what links here" - if there are a significant amount, i.e. more than you are willing to do, you should consult with someone who has bot access so they can convert everything automatically. That said, many links is a strong indicator that you should open a discussion (and potentially talk page proposal) before that comes into play.

Procedure

Special:MovePage form options:
1. Optional Select a new prefix for the page. Rarely needed as most subject spaces are, for the most part, pretty distinct.
2. Required Type a new name for the page, different from the old one. Opening and trailing whitespace, as well as >1 length spaces between words, will be trimmed. Special characters and wikitext markup also cannot be used.
3.
4.
Strongly encouraged Select and/or explain in detail why you are moving the page. If outcome of a talk discussion, just say "Per proposal". This will be stored in the specific move log as part of the broader page history.
Check Uncheck
Move associated talk page Almost always If part of a merge (or split), and the content of the old talk page will remain at a different location. (These options won't appear if not applicable).
Move subpages (up to 100)
Leave a redirect behind If old title is still a valid name for the subject. If old title was purely conjecture (no official basis in any capacity) or it was simply incorrect or misspelled.
Watch source page and talk page Up to you; Add to your personal watchlist. Won't appear if it already is.

When you are done making your selections, press Move page to confirm and complete the action.

Finally, it is good practice to please then perform a null edit on the page, as to ensure the cache and database tables properly refresh, along with any Cargo data stored or queried on the page.
