Professor Z's EMP weapon
The Lemons' EMP weapon was an electromagnetic radiation ray[1] invented by German scientist and international criminal Professor Zündapp. Disguised as a simple television camera, the weapon was designed to blend in with professional coverage of the World Grand Prix, a racing circuit hosted by oil tycoon and Zündapp's own superior, Sir Miles Axlerod. This weapon is extremely dangerous because, if used on a car that is driving at high speeds and is using Allinol as their fuel, the pulse will be so strong that it will damage the car's engine. The weapon can also kill the car if it's set to 100% power.
History

The camera was invented by Lemon scientist and weapons designer Professor Z—a reclusive fugitive known for spending most or all of his time in the lab.[2] In approximately 2011, a prototype was delivered to the villains' secret hideout, an oil derrick hidden deep in the Pacific. While investigating the base, British intelligence agent Finn McMissile directly witnessed the handoff, escaping with high-quality footage of the camera, though with little knowledge of its true purpose.
It was first tested on Rod "Torque" Redline after he was forcibly given Allinol and put on a treadmill. After Professor Z set the weapon's level to 100% power, Rod's engine burst into flames and he died. Grem and Acer later used it in the Tokyo, Porto Corsa, and London races. After the flameout of six cars, race fans thought Allinol was bad and gave up on it, much to the Lemons' happiness. The camera was later used on Lightning McQueen, but the pulse failed due to Sarge switching out the Allinol to Fillmore's organic fuel.

Trivia
- During the development of Cars 2, the EMP camera was originally going to be a red antenna ball that caused the the racers to blow up. It can be seen in action in the deleted Paris Race and Meet Finn scenes.[3][4]
