The mobile version of Cars 2: The Video Game is the most different version from the main console versions and even from the handheld variants, with differences such as:
- Only 5 playable characters;
- Only 3 different playable locations;
- A 2D view of the track;
- No races, instead, the objective is to reach the finish line and earn 3 stars in each level without depleting your health bar.

A free version, Cars 2 Lite was released on June 23, 2011 and was updated to at least version 1.2.6.[citation needed] It offered three levels and only Mater as a playable character.
