Radiator Springs Speedway is a racing speedway in Radiator Springs, Arizona, located north of Willy's Butte and Carburetor Canyon. The track and accompanying stadium were constructed simultaneously with Lightning McQueen's Racing Headquarters, some time after Lightning McQueen's rookie season and first Piston Cup win.[1] It was the hosting location for the Radiator Springs International, an open invitation for racers from around the world. The speedway later became a frequent training ground for the Doc Hudson Racing Academy, as it continued to expand.[2]

History

Some time after Lightning McQueen's rookie season, he and Doc Hudson had the idea to build a large-scale raceway in Radiator Springs - one large enough to garner popularity for the area, while also preserving the natural desert environment.[3] To celebrate its construction, they hosted the Radiator Springs International, an open invitational for competitors around the world.

The Doc Hudson Racing Academy utilized the course for their training programme; Hudson would teach basic skills in the morning, while McQueen would lead students on the speedway every afternoon.[4] Foreign racers Otto, Gudmund, Koji, Emma, and Giovanni came to Radiator Springs to train with McQueen and compete in the International.[5]

Cars: Mater-National Championship

Lightning McQueen and Giovanni after the Stadium gets finished.

In Cars: Mater-National Championship, the place was referred to as just a "Stadium". and the stadium was being built throughout the story. About one third through the story, the stadium wasn't finished, but it was ready to race on, so Lightning McQueen and Doc Hudson had a race, along with Otto Von Fassenbottom, Barry and Luigi.

A second race took place at night, after the Ornament Valley events, with Lightning McQueen, Otto Von Fassenbottom, Gudmund, Lenny, and Sonny. At this point, the stadium still wasn't complete.

After Canyon Run, the Stadium is finally built. There, Lightning McQueen and Giovanni hosted the last two events of the Mater-National, Stadium Race 4 and Team Relay 4.

Cars: Race-O-Rama

In Cars: Race-O-Rama, the place was referred to as "Radiator Springs Speedway." It is one of the four locations in the Race-O-Rama series. The speedway has more tracks now, and for the first time, you can explore it. This speedway hosts Mack Track Challenge, both Sprints and Academy Challenges, Hudson Student Run, Reunion Rundown and Chick Hicks Showdown. Minigames in this place includes Guido Kart 1 and 9, Auto Cross 1 and Photo Op 1.

After beating the first four events in Radiator Springs Speedway, you will unlock Radiator Springs.

When Lightning McQueen wins the Race-O-Rama series, Chick Hicks was angry about losing. Lightning McQueen tried to teach him a lesson, but Chick Hics just drove away, vowing his revenge. Later, Candice, El Machismo, Stinger came to Lightning McQueen to apologize for their behavior.

Behind the scenes

In the Cars 2005 Teaser Trailer, it is seen as an oval-type track going to be used in the first movie, however the name was used instead in the games below. It resembles the real-life Charlotte Motor Speedway, with evidence coming from the Cars making-of feature on the Cars DVD/Blu-ray as part of inspiration for Cars. This may be why the track name was misread as "Charlotte Springs Speedway".
