Pramath is an old saddle tank steam locomotive who works on the Kashmir Railway lines in the Himalayas.
History

In Planes, Pramath appears driving along a railroad track that heads toward a tunnel going through one of the mountains in Nepal. The moment he sees Dusty Crophopper flying through the tunnel in the opposite direction, Pramath applies his brakes as he tries to avoid colliding with Dusty, but Dusty narrowly misses him as he comes out of the tunnel.

| "Pramath joined the Kashmir Railway to get away from it all. More than anything' this train hoped to find a quiet, remote place to live, and trekking through the Himalayas seemed the perfect resolution. He found the quiet rides through the mountain tunnels of the Pir Panjal range peaceful and therapeutic; that is, until he nearly had a head-on collision with Dusty Crophopper."[2] |
Behind the scenes
Pramath is the first steam locomotive, and the only saddle tank steam locomotive to appear in the Cars universe. The second, Muir from Planes: Fire & Rescue, has his mouth located on his smokebox rather than cowcatcher.
Pramath's whistle sound is sourced from a LSWR N15 Class 4-6-0 No. 30777 “Sir Lamiel”. The same sound effect was used in the British television show Thomas & Friends, for the character of Charlie.
