All image uploads must follow the image policies detailed below:

All uploads have two basic requirements:

  1. Aboutfile template - You must identify where you got the image from.
  2. License - You must identify the copyright licensing.

Here are some guidelines as far as images themselves:

Prerequisites

  • Leave the file in its native format whenever possible - don't convert or re-export unless making other changes, which should be detailed in the "Edits" field.
  • The dimensions of an image shouldn't be modified from the original copy. It probably goes without saying that higher-quality files take precedence over lesser duplicates.
  • Per server configuration, a file cannot exceed an area of 8 megabytes (mb) - larger uploads will be rejected.
  • The image must be added to a page. If unused after more than a few hours, the file will be deleted.

Naming

Please give your image an easily identifiable name, that accurately and helpfully describes the subject(s).

  • Choose a title that concisely describes the image; typically will include how it relates to the article subject. "Dinoco_400_Cars_Logo.png" is far easier to locate than "4nzvlOXhcr48isEBOhy6.jpg".
  • Avoid shorthand, i.e. abbreviations.
  • Separate words instead of combining, to best appease the search algorithm. No: LightningMcQueenPersonalityPose.png Yes: Lightning McQueen personality pose.png
  • Unless the subject's title is only in another language, always use the English name (see general naming policy).
  • Omit special characters like parentheses and punctuation marks. This includes symbols or accented letters, even if part of the subject name (e.x. Raoul ÇaRoule).

Replacing

  • If the file format is equal to that of the image you wish to replace, use the "Upload a new version of this file" button on the respective file page. Do not upload a new photo and swap them out. If the format is different, upload the new one, and add a {{delete-request}} with a link to the old file. Then you may upload the new format image.
