Pixar Cars Wiki:Blocking policy

From Disney•Pixar CARS Wiki
Jump to navigation Jump to search

Blocks are issued as a last resort against disruptive or uncooperative users, who have repeatedly (and/or severely) violated our policy. When a user is blocked, they will be unable to edit or send messages to other users, for a given (usually temporary) period of time. There are three types of blocks:

  • User accounts
  • Anonymous IPs
  • IP ranges

Administrators have the necessary technical rights to perform any of these blocks on a user, for any duration of time. Needless to say, it is very important that this power is not abused. Blocks should be issued as a means of protecting the wiki itself from vandalism or disobliging attitudes - never for personal reasons or agendas.

Block policy

  • A block should rarely, if ever, be issued without the user first having received at least one (preferably all) class of warning.
  • Avoid indefinite blocks save for the absolute worst cases, i.e. instances of severe, unrelenting vandalism, or harmful social behavior like death threats or illegal images. Even if a block extends into years, everyone is capable of redemption and should one day be given the opportunity to do so.
  • Sockpuppets created by blocked users should be issued the same block settings as the original account.
  • Whenever a user is blocked, they are to be informed of such via a message on their wall. This message should re-state and explain the reason for the block, identify the type of block (see top of page), and communicate how long the block is set to last. Please also provide a link to this page for further information.

How to block

To block a user, a sysop should navigate to Special pages, then click the Block user link under the "Users and rights" section header. This will take you to Special:Block, where further, detailed instructions are outlined.

In addition, the option to block a user also appears while visiting their user profile, under both the "Contributions" and "Activity" tabs.
