ATTENTION, everyone! Been a minute yet again. But oh, was it worth it...

We have some very exciting things coming very soon, but before we kick them off, we have some quick policy updates regarding images. File organization has long been neglected on our wiki, and we've put together a new system to finally step up our game. So... what do you need to know?

Firstly, we've written out some basic guidelines for what images should and shouldn't be uploaded in general. Nothing is terribly different from before, but we highly encourage reading them anyway, as they go into detail about the advantages/disadvantages of different file types as well as some tips for naming them correctly.

Now for the fun part: If you go to upload a file, you'll notice some funky text appears in the entry form now. This is a preloaded form using the {{aboutfile}} template - It's a new feature designed to help identify and categorize the dozens to even hundreds of individual images that get uploaded every single day. You'll be asked to provide some information that you might not have before: In addition to briefly describing the image contents, you'll also need to identify where (and from whom) the image was obtained, and (if applicable) whether any modifications have been made to it.

(Note: As of 2024, simply type in the respective form fields.)

From this day forward, all uploads must identify the relevant information (description and source at minimum). This is one of two requirements we'll now be enforcing with the warning policy.

The second of these pertains to something that is not new, but a bit more fleshed out - You'll need to identify the appropriate license for any image you upload. This is as simple as clicking the drop-down list and choosing the one that applies.

...That's it. It might take some getting used to, but if you're confused, practice makes perfect - it shouldn't take too long to get the hang of. Either way, all of the admins (including me) are available via our message walls if you have any questions. Please don't be afraid to ask!

If you've been hanging around in the new Discord server these last couple months, you might be wondering why this is seemingly so out-of-the-blue. Well hypothetically, if we were about to finally launch something very exciting (and elaborate) that would involve uploading a heap of new files, this system sure would be nice to have in place first...
