The Legend is the fourth episode of Cars on the Road. It was released on September 8, 2022, where it aired exclusively on Disney+.
Synopsis
Mater and Lightning join local creature hunters in their search for a mysterious, elusive "monster."
Story
In the Wayne County Family Campground Lightning starts a campfire for him and Mater to sit around. Mater in the meantime met the Wayne County Cryptid Busters, who make McQueen uncomfortable as they start talking about bigfoot sightings. The race car tries to get out of the situation by saying he's going to sleep, but Mater informs Lightning that he managed to convince the conspiracists to let the pair join them, much to McQueen's horror. After the two get geared up, they go into the forest and start loudly checking if sectors are clear. Lightning doubts the existence of bigfoot, making sarcastic comments about his unwilling allies. After he comments on the racket the group are making he hears the rustling of leaves, and the same happens a few more times before "Bigfoot" begins to chase the racer. After failing to lose the monster he ends up crashing into a log, leaving him unconscious.
He wakes up in a small hut on a mountain to dance music which is quickly turned off after "Bigfoot" realises that Lightning is awake. He soon discovers that the "monster" is actually Ivy, a reclusive monster truck who once performed in demolition shows but retreated to the mountains after she accidentally crushed someone. Right as McQueen almost convinces Ivy to let him down, Mater breaks in but soon gets tied up alongside his friend. After they reason with each other Ivy lets the duo down after they agree to help her get rid of the Cryptid Busters from the forest.
After checking Ivy's basement the trio decide they have no ideas as to get rid of the hunters, however Mater accidentally gets stuck in washing machine tubes, which gives Ivy an idea. After the Hunters get stuck in a net placed by the trio, they get brought back to Ivy's basement. McQueen and Ivy pretend to be aliens draining Mater. Their ruse succeeds, and the hunters flee in terror. Grateful for their help, Ivy decides to join McQueen and Mater on their journey to Mato's wedding.
