The 2013-2014 draft of Cars 3 was the first draft of Cars 3. It featured a drastically different story to the final movie, focusing on Lightning McQueen's body being swapped and stolen by Gerald Carr, a criminal, "run-of-the-mill pedestrian model" who is jealous of the racer's life and success.

Fairly little is known about the plot.

Plot

Lightning McQueen is at the peak of his career. A trip to Los Angelis, where he goes to a party meeting many other famous cars (most, if not all being from real life pop culture) goes wrong, and he is kidnapped by criminal, Gerald Carr, due to his envy of McQueen. The criminal steals the racer's body, and dumps him in a cornfield. After waking in Gerald's body, he comes across a circus, of which Cruz Ramirez is participating in. "Carr" assists Cruz in his act, and Ramirez confides in McQueen about his dreams of becoming a racer. Later on in the film, the duo are chased down a highway, until they get split up, resulting in McQueen finding Gerald's MeeMaw's home. Lightning learns about the criminal's horrible life growing up and the truth about what happened to him and his body. He also learns from the TV that Gerald (in the racer's body) retires from racing, and plans to marry Sally that night. but the police soon arrive. Cruz also arrives and discovers the truth, but before the pair can collect any evidence the basement is set on fire by the police. The body swapped racer then escapes through a tunnel. Later on, at the wedding, Mater reveals that "Lightning" is not actually McQueen, and the wedding is off. This leads to the real McQueen getting his body back.
